Our private creekbed

We are back from our holiday but the computer was plying up big time and I have not yet been able to compose anything from what we saw. Since I had the little write up about our garden ready made and in stock here we go.......
When we moved in our house 6 years ago I had to create space for all my plants which I took along. As a matter of fact 3 trailer loads!!!!Beside the house was just half dead lawn which I chopped up and removed, then planted most of my things and put pine bark down. What I did not know was that every time it rained heavely a lot of the bark got washed away. After having to sweep and clean up the mess numerous times I had enough and I got rid of the bark. I also removed a lot of the plants which became straggly or did not look nice anymore. After putting down weed mat we put almost one tone of river gravel down. Looks much better and is also less work! The bulls head comes from Cape York when we drove the telegraph Line track some time ago. The pots are my own pieces. I now have my very own creek bed!

Wir sind wieder zu Hause, hatten aber enorme Problem mit dem Computer bis jetzt. In Ermangelung eines neuen Beitrags hier etwas vom "Lager"!
 Als wir vor 6 Jahren hier einzogen brachten wir 3 Anhaenger voll Pflanzen mit. Da es keinen Platz hatte zum was setzen raeumte ich den mickerigen Rasen neben dem Haus ab und pflanzte das meiste dort. Ringsum kam Rindenhaecksel damit es nicht soviel Unkraut gibt.Was ich nicht realisierte war dass jedesmal wenn es stark regnete schwemnmte es viel von dem Haecksel weg. Nach zigmal aufraumen und putzen hatte ich genug und raeumte den Haecksel weg. Auch viele der Pflanzen hackte ich aus.Dann kam Unkrautmatte auf den Boden und fast eine Tonne Flusskies. Nun schaut es wieder viel besser aus und das Problem mit dem wegwaschen ist geloest. Wir nennen dies nun unser ganz privates Flussbett! Die Toepfe sind aus der eigenen Werkstatt und der Kuhkopf kommt vom Cape York ganz im obersten Zipfel von Australien.    

Refashion Number 2, from wing suit to wearable

My husband called it the wing suit and he was not wrong the top was very large. The re make was simple, just taking in the side seams and a dart on each shoulder to reduce the neckline.
That's it from me until the end of July, we will be of for another long holiday in Canada. See you later......

 

 Mein Mann nannte dies "deinen Wingsuit" und er hatte nicht unrecht, das Top war sehr gross. Die Transformation war einfach, beide Seitennaehte einnehmen und einen Abnaeher auf den Achseln und voila....

Das ist mein letzter Blog bis Ende Juli. Wir sind wieder unterwegs auf einer groesseren Reise nach Canada. Bis spaeter.......

refashion number 1

I have already started with the re-makes of my swapped items. The dark blue dress was meant to be a long sleeved top but alas, not enough material. So it turned into a short sleeved version. Since crop tops are not my style I also needed to lengthen the piece. After patching  together some off cuts  I was able to add some length and also made a little sash  at one side.  The pattern is Butterick 3030 and I made roughly version A.
                                                             

 Ich habe schon angefangen mit der Verarbeitung meiner Stuecke. Eigentlich wollte ich ein langaermeliges Top machen aber das Material reichte nicht. So entstand eine kurzaermelige Version. Es ist angelehnt an Butterick 3030, version A. Das Oberteil geriet etwas kurz und da ich aus dem Alter fuer Crop-Tops raus bin musste ich etwas anstueckeln zum verlaengern. An einer Seite liess ich den uebrigen Stoff vorstehen zum lose binden.   

Clothes swap

A couple of weeks ago our council organized a clothes swap. Anyone interested could hand in 5 pieces (or more) of clothing, belts and handbags and then received 5 dockets. Then on Sunday all the donated items where lined up in the basketball hall in Sutherland. A whole horde/gaggle/crowd of ladies of all ages waited impatiently at the door. After having consumed some refreshments we all started sorting through the racks and tables. I had problems finding things that fit. All the clothes where either to small, some to big or simply not suitable, In the end I picked a pair of beige shorts that fit, 2 way to small dresses, 1 to small long skirt and a to large top. 

 Vor ein paar Wochen organisierte eine Grupp in unserer Gemeinde einen Kleidertausch. Man konnte 5 oder mehr Kleider, Guertel oder Taschen bringen und erhielt dafuer 5 Coupons. Dann am folgenden Sonntag wurde alles im hiesigen Basketball Stadion aufgestellt. Zur angegebenen Zeit draengelte sich der ganze Schwarm Frauen jeglichen Alters vor der Tuere. Nach einer Starkung von Tee, Kaffe und Cupcakes ging das Gewuehle los. Ich hatte Muehe etwas zu finden da das meiste zu klein,zu gross oder einfach nicht passend war. Am Schluss kam ich mit folgendem heim: ein paar beige Shorts die passen, 2 viel zu kleine Roecke, 1 zu kleiner aber langer Jupe und ein viel zu grosses Top. War lustig und wir werden wieder sowas machen!   

   

A DEVIL OF A TIME!

I just realized that I never mentioned our trip to Tasmania early march. We spent  a fourthnight travelling around and camping. There are some beautiful National Parks and lots of spectacular landscape. The Ferry took us and our van across the Tasman. As expected the weather was very changeable, especially on the westcoast very blustery and rainy. Towards the end of our stay we had a fitting finale with a couple of gloriously sunny days. The last time we visited the island was almost 30 years ago and of course a lot has changed since then. Overall, another memorable and very enjoyable experience. 

Gerade habe ich festgestellt dass ich nie ueber unseren kurzen Trip nach Tasmanien geschreiben habe. Im Maerz waren wir fuer zwei Wochen dort. In Melbourne bestiegen wir und unser VW Van die Faehre die uns ueber die Tasman Meerenge transportierte. Wie erwartet war das Wetter eher gemischt. Speziell an der Westkueste stuermte es heftig und regnete jeden Tag. Erst gegen Ende unserer Ferien gab es dann noch ein paar schoene sonnige Tage. Wir waren vor ca fast 30 Jahren das letzte Mal auf der Insel und natuerlich hat sich einiges veraendert. Alles in allem hat es uns wieder sehr gut gefallen und wir genossen es einmal mehr vielerorts wild campen zu koennen. 

Bananas galore!

A few weeks ago I cut down a bunch of bananas from my tree in the back yard. I left it in the garage wrapped in a black plastic bag. Now we have a glut of ripe organic bananas, will have to give away some since there it is just to much just for us!

Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich einen Bund gruene Bananen von unserem Baum geschnitten. Eingepackt in einem schwarzen Plastic Sack lagen sie in der Garage. Heute als ich nachschaute fand ich praktisch den ganzen Bund reif. Werde wohl etwas weggeben muessen weil es fuer uns zwei zuviel ist.

Little top make over

I bought this little top years ago and hardly ever wore it because of the collar which just never sat right and the very revealing "button hole" cutout at the front. I really like the feel and color of the material I had to do something with it. So to make it wearable I chopped the collar of and reshaped the neckline. Then I cut  the collar apart to be used as interface. Last but not least the top is now worn back to front. 

Ich kaufte dieses Top vor einigen Jahren habe es aber kaum getragen wegen dem Kragen und Ausschnitt der mehr wie ein uebergrosses Knopfloch aussah! Ich mag das Material und auch die Farbe sehr und so entschloss ich mich etwas dran zu basteln. Der Kragen kam weg und ich brauchte das Material zum verstuerzen des neuen Ausschnitts . Nun trage ich das Top umgekehrt, was vorne war kommt hinten. Et voila, ein weiteres tragbares Stueck!
