A DEVIL OF A TIME!

I just realized that I never mentioned our trip to Tasmania early march. We spent  a fourthnight travelling around and camping. There are some beautiful National Parks and lots of spectacular landscape. The Ferry took us and our van across the Tasman. As expected the weather was very changeable, especially on the westcoast very blustery and rainy. Towards the end of our stay we had a fitting finale with a couple of gloriously sunny days. The last time we visited the island was almost 30 years ago and of course a lot has changed since then. Overall, another memorable and very enjoyable experience. 

Gerade habe ich festgestellt dass ich nie ueber unseren kurzen Trip nach Tasmanien geschreiben habe. Im Maerz waren wir fuer zwei Wochen dort. In Melbourne bestiegen wir und unser VW Van die Faehre die uns ueber die Tasman Meerenge transportierte. Wie erwartet war das Wetter eher gemischt. Speziell an der Westkueste stuermte es heftig und regnete jeden Tag. Erst gegen Ende unserer Ferien gab es dann noch ein paar schoene sonnige Tage. Wir waren vor ca fast 30 Jahren das letzte Mal auf der Insel und natuerlich hat sich einiges veraendert. Alles in allem hat es uns wieder sehr gut gefallen und wir genossen es einmal mehr vielerorts wild campen zu koennen. 

Bananas galore!

A few weeks ago I cut down a bunch of bananas from my tree in the back yard. I left it in the garage wrapped in a black plastic bag. Now we have a glut of ripe organic bananas, will have to give away some since there it is just to much just for us!

Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich einen Bund gruene Bananen von unserem Baum geschnitten. Eingepackt in einem schwarzen Plastic Sack lagen sie in der Garage. Heute als ich nachschaute fand ich praktisch den ganzen Bund reif. Werde wohl etwas weggeben muessen weil es fuer uns zwei zuviel ist.

Little top make over

I bought this little top years ago and hardly ever wore it because of the collar which just never sat right and the very revealing "button hole" cutout at the front. I really like the feel and color of the material I had to do something with it. So to make it wearable I chopped the collar of and reshaped the neckline. Then I cut  the collar apart to be used as interface. Last but not least the top is now worn back to front. 

Ich kaufte dieses Top vor einigen Jahren habe es aber kaum getragen wegen dem Kragen und Ausschnitt der mehr wie ein uebergrosses Knopfloch aussah! Ich mag das Material und auch die Farbe sehr und so entschloss ich mich etwas dran zu basteln. Der Kragen kam weg und ich brauchte das Material zum verstuerzen des neuen Ausschnitts . Nun trage ich das Top umgekehrt, was vorne war kommt hinten. Et voila, ein weiteres tragbares Stueck!

Gardening and harvesting

I am very happy with how my garden is doing. I had just one "tipee" of bamboo sticks for my climbing beans and have been able to harvest so much that I was able to give good quantities to friends. The beans are finished but I have now cucumbers and zucchini doing very nicely. Sweetcorn was just a trial run and was no good, I do not know why. The best thing was a self seeded tomato plant. It produces non stop and has been for the last couple of months. A friend from Switzerland commented on my summer savory. Mine grows like weeds but hers only struggles along.

Ich bin sehr gluecklich mit meinem kleinen Gemuesegaertchen. Die Stangenbohnen kletterten an einem Tipee aus Bambusstangen hoch. Meine Ernte war so gut dass ich sogar ein paar Mal weggeben konnte. Die Bohnen sind nun fertig und nun sind die Gurken und Zucchini am wachsen wie wild.  Ich probierte auch Mais aber das war ein Reinfall. Die meisten Pflanzen knicken ab sobald sie nur etwa 20cm hoch sind und die andern bleiben einfach mickerig. Na, ja was solls....Was am besten "tut" ist eine Tomaten Staude die von Samen im Kompost "schossen". Alle paar Tage kann ich ein Schaelchen voll ablesen und das seit ein paar Monaten. Freunde aus der Schweiz waren erstaunt wie mein Bohnenkraut aussieht. Hier waechst es wie Unkraut wahrend dem ihres nur eher mickerig kommt.

MUSIC TO OUR EARS

We have  just returned from Tamworth and the annual Country Music Festival. Was great and  we got our fill on many different kinds of music. Most people do not realize that Country Music is not just one type but incorporates many genres. We have been listening to Rock bands, Balladeers, Guitar Virtuosos, Jodeling etc etc. The entire main street of the town is usually blocked of and dozens of buskers do their best to outdo each other. In every locality, shopping centre and hall music can be savoured, a lot of it for free. Fantastic vibe and a lot of fun!
On the way home I gathered some wild peaches and have already made some jam. We do not like the store bought variety any longer, we find it far to sweet. Wild peaches are not as sweet or as juicy as the commercially grown variety but the taste makes up for it!

Wie fast jedes Jahr waren wir auch diesmal wieder in Tamworth am Country Music festival. Hat uns gut gefallen und wir haben immer noch den Kopf voller Musik. Die meisten Leute denken das Country Musik  nur eine bestimmte Art von Musik ist. dem ist aber nicht so, von Rock ueber Balladen, Jodlerinnen und bis zu moderner Musik gibt es alles zu hoeren. Jegliche Lokalitaeten sind ausgebucht waehrend dieser Zeit. Die ganze Hauptstrasse ist gesperrt und Dutzende von Musikanten tun ihr bestes um einander zu uebertonen! Eine tolle Atmosphare!
Auf dem Heimweg sammelte ich wilde Pfirsiche und habe schon Konfi gemacht. Sie sind nicht so suess oder saftig wie die gekaufte Variante aber der Duft..... 

Flowering cactus

When we moved here nearly 6 years ago I friend gave me a small cactus plant. In the meantime it has grown to over 2m high. It sometimes flowers but the blooms open just over night and it is not often that I actually see them in bloom. The other morning I happen to take out the scraps to the compost and there it was in its full glory!

Als wir vor fast 6 Jahren hier einzogen erhielt ich von einer Bekannten einen Abschnitt von ihrem Kaktus. Inzwischen ist es ueber 2m gross geworden. Wenn der Kaktus blueht ist das nur durch die Nacht und man muss Glueck haben um die Blueten zu sehen. Vor ein paar Tagen brachte ich meine Abfaelle zum Kompost und entdeckte die schoene Bluete.
