MUSIC TO OUR EARS

We have  just returned from Tamworth and the annual Country Music Festival. Was great and  we got our fill on many different kinds of music. Most people do not realize that Country Music is not just one type but incorporates many genres. We have been listening to Rock bands, Balladeers, Guitar Virtuosos, Jodeling etc etc. The entire main street of the town is usually blocked of and dozens of buskers do their best to outdo each other. In every locality, shopping centre and hall music can be savoured, a lot of it for free. Fantastic vibe and a lot of fun!
On the way home I gathered some wild peaches and have already made some jam. We do not like the store bought variety any longer, we find it far to sweet. Wild peaches are not as sweet or as juicy as the commercially grown variety but the taste makes up for it!

Wie fast jedes Jahr waren wir auch diesmal wieder in Tamworth am Country Music festival. Hat uns gut gefallen und wir haben immer noch den Kopf voller Musik. Die meisten Leute denken das Country Musik  nur eine bestimmte Art von Musik ist. dem ist aber nicht so, von Rock ueber Balladen, Jodlerinnen und bis zu moderner Musik gibt es alles zu hoeren. Jegliche Lokalitaeten sind ausgebucht waehrend dieser Zeit. Die ganze Hauptstrasse ist gesperrt und Dutzende von Musikanten tun ihr bestes um einander zu uebertonen! Eine tolle Atmosphare!
Auf dem Heimweg sammelte ich wilde Pfirsiche und habe schon Konfi gemacht. Sie sind nicht so suess oder saftig wie die gekaufte Variante aber der Duft..... 

Flowering cactus

When we moved here nearly 6 years ago I friend gave me a small cactus plant. In the meantime it has grown to over 2m high. It sometimes flowers but the blooms open just over night and it is not often that I actually see them in bloom. The other morning I happen to take out the scraps to the compost and there it was in its full glory!

Als wir vor fast 6 Jahren hier einzogen erhielt ich von einer Bekannten einen Abschnitt von ihrem Kaktus. Inzwischen ist es ueber 2m gross geworden. Wenn der Kaktus blueht ist das nur durch die Nacht und man muss Glueck haben um die Blueten zu sehen. Vor ein paar Tagen brachte ich meine Abfaelle zum Kompost und entdeckte die schoene Bluete.

More bags.......

I love making bags and again I have been digging in my boxes for suitable material. These are the latest additions to my collection. Of course I make them to be sold, there are far to many to keep for myself! However, a fair few have ended up in my hot little hands being used. As always, I work without a pattern, just an idea and off I go. Most of the time the material or lack of it dictates the size and shape. In the meantime the black bag with the red flower has found a new home!
Ich mache sehr gerne Taschen und einmal mehr bekam ich das reissen, Nichts wie los und meine Kartons durchwuehlt um zu schauen was ich noch machen koennte. Natuerlich sind sie alle zum verkaufen, es sind zuviele zum selber benutzen! Aber manchmal landen sie dann halt doch im Eigengebrauch, mal schauen wie es diesmal wird!!!! Wie immer arbeite ich ohne Schnittmuster, finde ich einen Stoff dann habe ich vage Idee und schon gehts los. Meistens diktiert der Stoff was daraus wird. Inzwischen ist die schwarze Tasche mit der roten Blume schon an die Frau gekommen! Gut so,ich kann noch mehr machen...

Bauhaus skirt and matching top

A small off cut of linen like upholstery material was lingering in my boxes. I also found a lacy dress at the Salvos. Far to small for me to wear but I liked the color. By sheer coincidence the turquoise is a perfect match to the linen. My idea is/was to make a dress out of the two items. Progress report to follow.....

Ich hatte seit langem einen kleinen Rest leinenartigen Stoff in einer meiner Boxen. Dann hatte ich ein Spitzenkleid (fuer mich viel zu klein)vom Secondhandladen das genau zu einer der Farben des Leinenstoffes passte. Meine Idee ist/war die beiden Stoffe zu kombinieren und ein Kleid daraus zu machen. Mehr spaeter, bin immer noch am "basteln"!  

   

In the meantime I finished the project. Not exactly as I had in mind though. The lace was very stretchy and an absolute nightmare to work with. After an afternoon fiddling around I went and bought a cheapish matching singlet and used the lace as overlay only. I had to hand stitch it on because it did not look nice done with the sewing machine. Overall another recycling project under the belt and a couple of pieces less taking up space. 

Inzwischen ist das Projekt fertig geworden, zwar nicht wie geplant aber immerhin. Der Spiztenstoff war zu elastisch und ich hatte grosse Muehe mit anpassen etc. Nach einem Nachmittag rumwerkeln gab ich auf und kaufte ein passendes billiges Top. Ein Teil der Spitze ueberlegte ich und naehte alles von Hand an. War nicht schoen mit der Maschine genaeht.  Alles in allem etwas tragbares mehr im Schrank und etwas vom "Hudelsack" gerettet.

Just a little bit of sewing on the side..............

I have conquered another hurdle by doing a FBA on a princess seam. The pattern is from the Burda magazine 3/2009 model 107. It has pockets in the seams but I omitted these. Bar for the waist I used to be able to cut Burda patterns without alterations. Unfortunately  
not any more...... Now my measurements are all over the place.  Talk about life changes.....
The material is from my oh so moderate stash. I originally bought it years ago for a pair of pants which never eventuated. It is  a cotton twill with a bit of stretch, very nice to wear and not prone to creasing.  This has become another wearable muslin, but I still have to tweak the pattern a little bit more.  I calculated the FBA as being 2,5cm but obviously made a mistake there and definitely need more "give". Since the top was to tight I had to make the seams  as small as possible to gain some ease. Overall I am quite happy and upon wearing the dress for the opening of our Pottery Competition in September I got a few compliments. Probably also because I rarely wear a dress.  

Ich habe eine weitere Huerde bewaeltigt naemlich eine FBA an einem Prinzess Linie Kleid. 
Weiss nicht was FBA auf deutsch heisst, es ist eine Aenderung fuer eine groessere Bueste. 
Der Schnitt ist aus Burda 3/2009 Modell 107. Die Taschen in der Frontnaht habe ich ausgelassen. Ausser in der  Taille musste ich frueher  Burda Schnitte nicht aendern.  Das hat sich nun geandert und meine Masse sind na ja, eben individuell. Das Material ist eine feste Baumwolle mit etwas Elastizitaet. Knittert wenig und ist sehr angenehm zu tragen. Ich mass 2,5cm extra fuer FBA muss mich aber verrechnet haben. Beim probieren war es etwas eng ueber der Brust und ich musste die Naehte so small wie moeglich machen.  Trotzdem es mehr ein Probestueck ist bin ich ziemlich gluecklich mit dem Resultat. Ich hatte Premiere damit bei der Eroeffnung unserer Ausstellung der Port Hacking Toepfergruppe. Ich erhielt sogar ein paar Komplimente. Wahrscheinlich auch weil ich eher selten Roecke trage!

A grain of wisdom to take along into 2015

A little christmas cheer

My wisteria needs a frequent haircut and there are always heaps of the very long and pliable branches to throw out. I did some cutting a few months ago and left the branches under cover to dry out. Formed into a wreath and decorated they make a free and unique christmas decoration for the front door.

Meine Glyzinie braucht des oeftern einen "Haarschnitt" und es gibt immer einen Haufen der langen und biegsamen Zweige zum wegschmeissen. Als ich sie vor ein paar Monaten trimmte behielt ich die Zweige und liess sie etwas trocknen. Zum Kranz geformt und etwas dekoriert habe ich nun einen einmaligen
