Walk in the bush

During the time we had to stay at home, I often went walking in the bush starting just in front of our house. Time to reflect and contemplate all sorts of things. I often take the camera and shoot a few things that seem interesting.


Waehrend der Zeit wo wir mehr oder weniger zu Hause bleiben mussten ging ich oft im Busch laufen der gerade vor unserer Haustuere beginnt. Zeit um meinen Gedanken nach zu haengen oder einfach  die Natur zu geniessen. Oft nehme ich die Camera mit und schiesse ein paar Bildchen von Dingen die mir auffallen.

Pottery sculptures

During the last few month I have been making a few pieces out of miscellaneous bits of clay given to me. I do not know if it is high or low fire. So to be on the safe side I only fired everything to a low temperature. Was good fun and the pieces look very decorative in the garden. 

Waehrend den letzten paar Monaten habe ich allerlei Ton aufgebraucht den ich geschenkt erhalten habe. Da ich nicht wusste ob es Hoch- oder Niederfeuer Material, ist habe ich vorsichtigerweise alles Niederbrand gemacht. Hat Spass gemacht und die verschiedenen "Stelen" stehen nun dekorativ in meinen Garten.

Sofa cushion to tote

The discarded cover of a sofa cushion in faux-suede is perfectly suitable for a tote bag. I cut it without a pattern just two squares and an insert at the sides. The lining is an off cut from some upholstery material with a print of African wildlife. I like larger bags since I can easily go without a shopping bag just when I need a couple of items.

Der Ueberzug von einem Sofa Kissen wurde in eine groessre Tasche umgewandelt. Es ist eine Art Alcantara und ideal fuer diesen Zweck. Ich arbeitete ohne Schnittmuster und alles wurde "in etwa" geschnitten. Als Futter nahm ich einen Abschnitt eines Moebel Stoffes mit Dschungel Muster. Ich mag diese Art Taschen da sie anstelle einer Einkaufstasche gebraucht werden koennen speziell wenn ich nur ein oder zwei Sachen habe. 

The sewing mojo is on......

In order to use up some more fabric, I made a light flannel shirt from a piece which has been hanging around for yonks. The base pattern I used is Burda 6810 but I have butchered it considerably. Both the back and the sleeves are  2 pieces both of which I altered to one piece. Furthermore the button placket which was separate and had hidden buttons is now cut on in one piece and shows the buttons. I also attached two pockets. Last but not least I made some 1 cm darts both back and front to just slightly shape the shirt. All up, I am pretty happy with the result and it wears beautifully! Da ich immer noch sehr viel Material zum verarbeiten kommt nun das eine oder andere Stueck zum Zug. Diese Bluse ist aus einem leichten Flannel entstanden und gerade richtig fuer die kuehlere Jahreszeit. Das Schnittmuster ist Burda 6810 aber wurde sehr abgeandert. Original ist der Rucken und die Aermel in 2 Stuecken. Ich habe aber beides an einem Stueck geschnitten. Die Knopfleiste im Original ist separat und verdeckt Bei mir ist sie nun auch angeschnitten und offen. Dann kamen noch 2 Taschen drauf und hinten und vorne kleinere Abnaeher um das Ganze etwas in Form zu bringen. Die Bluse ist sehr angenehm zu tragen und ich bin ein weiteres Stueck Stoff los. Tragefotos sollten noch kommen da der Fotograf andersweitig beschaftigt ist!!!!

More upcycling

I cannot remember when and where I picked up this piece, but it has been sitting in my  re-do box for a long time. I like the material and the print is rather whimsical. I cut of some of the length and used it to make sleeves since the original ones went AWOL. I left the pockets since they are a nice touch. The band around the neckline was to wide so I cut it in half and re attached it. Not sure if I like it that much though, shall have to wear it first and see.

Ich kann mich nicht erinnern woher ich dieses Top habe aber es lag schon seit ewig in meiner Anderungs Kiste. Ich mag das Material und das Muster ist etwas speziell. Die Aermel die ich mal raus getrennt hatte gingen verloren. Zum Glueck war das Teil lang genug so konnte ich vom Abschnitt Aermel schneiden. Die kleinen Taschen liess ich aber die Umrandung des Halsausschnittes machte ich die Haelfte schmaler. Bin nicht sicher ob ich gluecklich bin mit dem Resultat, mal schauen.....

pottery studio - kiln

I do not think I ever put pictures on the blog showing my electric kiln. I bought it a couple of years ago and never looked back. Our garden shed had to be cleared and now the kiln lives there.
It is electric and can be programmed to whichever type/temperature required.

Ich glaube nicht dass ich je Bilder meines elektrischen Brennofens in den Blog gestellt habe. Das wird nun nachgeholt. Ich habe ihn vor ein paar Jahren gekauft und tut mir gute Dienste. Der Ofen lebt nun in meinem kleinen Garten Schuppen wo ich natuerlich zuerst Platz machen musste. Je nach Material und Brennart kann ich das Ganze programmieren und laeuft bis zum Schluss vollautomatisch. 

Here it is with a finished glazing load and I am in the process of unpacking after an over night cooling period.

Ein Glasur Brand ist gerade fertig abgekuehlt (ueber Nacht) und kann nun ausgeladen werden.



























Before Christmas I had a commission for a dozen napkin rings. A made some more and now have a set of six myself. They turned out nice and the customer was very happy.

Latest Projects

Everybody has to make the best of the present situation, namely being more or less house-bound. I tackled some sewing projects which have been "hanging" around for a while. Unfortunately I have no "before"  pictures, as most of the time to busy getting it all done before thinking to take some photos. Here we go....

Jeder muss momentan das Beste aus der doch ungewoehnlichen Situation machen dass man eher zu Hause fest sitzt. Ich habe ein paar Projekt angepackt die schon eine Weile rum hingen. Wie meistens vergass ich "vorher" Fotos zu machen aber die Erklaerung folgt....

Das pink und turqoise T shirt sind gekauft. Ich habe beide etwas aufgemoebelt mit Stoff den ich am Lager hatte.

Peters most favoured golfing T shirt was getting a bit worn around the color/neckband. A ribbon with native birds now covers the damage. He is very happy!

Peters allerliebstes Golf T shirt war am Kragensteg etwas abgewetzt aber wie immer kann er sich von sowas nicht trennen. Ein Band dekoriert mit einheimischen Voegeln deckt nun den Schaden und er ist gluecklich,

 Last but not least, I had to attach a pocket to this shirt for Peter's glasses.

Letztlich noch etwas einfaches, eine Tasche fuer die Brille wieder auf einem T shirt von Peter.

Weiteres ist noch in Arbeit und wird spaeter folgen.
